Badminton: Junior champions today, where tomorrow?

First of all, congratulations to the new world junior badminton boys’ doubles champions - Tan Boon Heong and Hoon Thien How! It's no mean feat, being junior champions, and these two look to have a bright future. Or DO THEY?

TWO Malaysian pairs have won the same title before - Chan Chong Ming-Jeremy Gan (1996) and Chong Ming-Teo Kok Seng (1998), and neither have made an impact in the senior level (except Chan, of course). What happened?

Anyway, BAM may have 'big plans' for Tan and Hoon, but it remains to be seen whether if BAM can REALLY nurture this pair properly. If we're lucky, they MIGHT go on to become world beaters. More likely than not, BAM will screw up again by spliting up the pair to 'help them improve'.

IMHO, rather than all the constant 'restructuring' of their training programs, what we REALLY need is to get Park Joo Bong back as head coach. Look at what he did for Korea's badminton AFTER Malaysia let him go!
